The Board of the University
Article 7: The Board of the University consists of:
- The Chancellor as President
- The Deans of the Faculties
- A representative from the lecturers from every faculty, elected at the beginning of the academic year
- The Board shall elect one of its members to assume the duties of the secretary
Article 8: The Chancellor calls the Board for a meeting once a month and the Board shall meet whenever the need to do so arises upon the request of the Chancellor, upon a written justified request of a third of the members, or upon the request of the Board of Trustees.
The meetings of the Board shall be legitimate with the attendance of at least two thirds of its members and decisions shall be made according to the vote of the majority.
Article 9: The Board of the University shall assume the following duties and have the authority to:
- Set out the general plan for education and research at the University including its need for teaching staff
- Determine the regulations for admission of students, student numbers in faculties, and admission and course fees
- Prepare curricula and exam regulations
- Organize educational cooperation plans with other universities, institutions, and organizations
- Propose changes to the rules of procedure and the financial system of the University
- Approve the rules of procedure for faculties
- Set out the plan for the budget of the University
- Propose plans for the development of the University: faculties, buildings, equipment…
- Propose the schedule of salaries, awards, wages and other expenses
- Follow up all matters of academic nature
Article 10: The Board of the University determines the salaries of the full-time teaching staff and the hourly rates of part-time teaching staff at the beginning of every academic year and these salaries and rates shall be indexed annually according to the increase in the cost of living reported by the relevant official authorities.
Members of the academic teaching staff shall be awarded upon their dismissal from service a gratuity equivalent to one month pay for every year of service and 1/12 of the hourly rate of actual teaching hours for part-time teachers.
The teaching staff will remain in contact with the University during the two months of the summer holiday to carry out duties set out by the administration of the University.
